Client Diaries: Oceanaut Marks Major Breakthrough with Complete WCMRC South Coast Fleet Integration

In another milestone for Albatross Marine, its flagship product Oceanaut has now onboarded the complete Western Canada Marine Response Corporation (WCMRC) fleet from the South Coast Vancouver region. With WCMRC as the chief client, Oceanaut is responsible for managing 88 vessels in the fleet on its platform to support regulatory compliance, voyage management, live location tracking, and crew management.

While discussing the same during a candid conversation with Captain Kent R Reid, the Marine Operations Manager at WCMRC, we learnt of all that is happening down at the Vancouver harbor. Out of 88 vessels, more than 50% vessels have now been added to the system, with the teams of the respective regions completely transitioning to the software.

The Port Captain, who has had 35 years of experience with esteemed organizations, including the Canadian Coast Guard and Transport Canada, explained the process while highlighting that the team appreciates the fleet management system,

"The implementation for all the South coast bases went really well! We used one of our critical bases in Vancouver harbor — a major port. They volunteered to be part of the project. They are a good team and like using Oceanaut."

The Ongoing Actions and Future Plans: WCMRC x Oceanaut

Captain Kent told us he was currently in Nanaimo, overseeing the onboarding for the Vancouver Island. He shared with us WCMRC's near future plans with respect to Oceanaut,

"Now, we're expanding the roll-out to our bases in Vancouver Island. We've got one of our big response barges — and we're about 30-40 certificates into that. A couple of our bigger class vessels are up here and we're getting into that now. I'm very confident that we'll be successful."

He proudly continued,

"The UI is so good that the team is happy. They're enrolling all vessels — the whole base — comfortably! I'm also very happy with how easy it is to request for customization.

Team members often wonder "can Oceanaut do this... or that?" and nine out of 10 times, I am pretty sure it can. Like, recently, I sent a request if a particular vessel can be assigned to a specific base, and the Oceanaut team's answer was yes."

Communication with the team at Oceanaut is easy and convenient, he added.

"I cannot sing Oceanaut's praises enough."

WCMRC had expressed interest in looking at Oceanaut as a unified solution for the whole program, as Captain Kent shared they would like to use Oceanaut for inventory management and as a learning management system too.

"There's no piece of software, no single platform that can do everything. We're very comfortable saying that... Oceanaut can manage all our marine operations. (I am) looking forward to dry docking and voyage planning next year!" he concluded on the cheerful note. "As a mariner, I see great potential in Oceanaut."
