First-of-its-kind ship-to-ship LNG transfer achieved by Edison
Italian energy company Edison has implemented its first ship-to-ship liquefied natural gas (LNG) refuelling operation, in Trieste port, in the Adriatic Sea. Stepping ahead on the sustainable path, the refuelling was conducted on Edison's LNG Carrier Ravenna Knutsen.
Colombo port now world's fastest growing port
In a noteworthy feat, Colombo Port has been recognized as the fastest-growing port globally for Q1 2024 by Alphaliner, achieving a 23.6% growth rate. Despite continuous labor strikes, the port generated USD 50 million in the first quarter and contributed to a total profit of USD 100 million in 2023.
Forthcoming developments include the Eastern Container Terminal and Western Terminal, all set to open in February 2025. In aviation, international passenger numbers surged by 26.10% to 4.3 million by July 2024. Plans for a new terminal at Bandaranaike International Airport are also underway.
Crew from capsized luxury yacht 'Lovebug' in Maryland’s Rhode River rescued safely
Last week, the 122-foot luxury yacht Lovebug capsized in Maryland’s Rhode River, forcing the five crew members to abandon the ship. The U.S. Coast Guard responded to a distress call around 12:30 PM as the yacht listed dangerously.
The crew was rescued with help from a nearby boat.
Through a new partnership with steel providers, Konecranes to bolster US Port
The Finnish port equipment manufacturer, Konecranes, is ramping up efforts to build a network of US partners for producing a full range of port cranes, including ship-to-shore models, in response to rising trade tensions and security concerns.
The decision aligns with the “Build America Buy America” (BABA) standards. "Finland is a reliable Ally to the U.S., and a leader in port security solutions, both in hardware and software," noted the Ambassador of Finland to the US.
